All the lights in the apartment were turned off, and the only ambient light came from flickering candles that were placed on the kitchen counter and the coffee and end tables that surrounded our davenport. She wore a simple white dress, was barefoot, and her jet-black hair flowed loosely about her shoulders. Standing next to her was a priest.

I wasn’t quite sure what to say, but it didn’t matter because Hana did the talking. She walked over, closed the door for me, then took my hand, looked me in the eye, and said the words I’ll never forget for as long as I live.

“You’re doing a brave and noble thing, and I know in some ways you’re doing it for me…for us. I’m proud of you, Handsome Jack. I’ve also never been more in love with you than I am at this very moment. Will you marry me?”
